My life has been a series of chapters, each one more exciting than the next. I feel incredibly lucky that I have been able to follow my passions, explore unique pursuits and rely on my incredibly smart peers for direction and support. As I wrote most recently, this led me to work on a presidential campaign last year helping register over 50,000 people in swing states (a larger margin than what it took to win the election!)
This year is a new chapter. As those close to me have heard a thousand times, I have always been passionate about early stage venture capital. It combines all of the things I hold dear: connecting with passionate people, researching growing industries, operating and strategizing on creative commercialization/distribution.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to test out the waters of this industry through a fellowship with Bloomberg Beta, an early stage venture firm focused on the future of work. Admittedly, a very hot topic right now.
The team at Bloomberg Beta, Karin, Roy, James, Minn, Harley, Lisa, Angela, Maria and Cody, have been working on improving the workplace for over eight years now deploying capital across three funds and building a diverse portfolio of companies. They’ve gotten to the crux of the most challenging questions for our future workforce. For example, how do we become our best work selves? How do we become a productive and happy workforce? How do we implement automation and artificial intelligence into our working world in a way that benefits us, not replaces us? But most importantly, they have done so while putting the founder first, always. Bloomberg Beta runs off the basis that the founder is the customer. The founder’s success and happiness are the cornerstone of their work. As a former founder, this is very important to me.
With all this said, I am really excited to see what 2021 brings for the future of work. While I will be writing about developing theses through this channel going forward. It’s worth sharing some quick bullet points. I am hoping for opportunities that will:
Support the creator/builder economy allowing more personal freedom for those on less traditional paths (Answering questions like how does a solo entrepreneur get affordable healthcare?)
Help support the changing data infrastructure ecosystem as we see more companies transition to data lakes and the rise of Snowflake
Make remote workers more productive, safer and happier through tools in cybersecurity, productivity tools, etc.
Continue taking us down the path of no code, low code platforms in order to democratize building
I would love to talk about this more! If you are in venture and are interested in discussing some of these themes, give me a shout. If you are a founder or thinking about starting something, I would love to talk to you. If you are curious about what some of this means and have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out.
Hope you find excitement in your next chapter this year!
